My Kingdom For a Horse

It seems like my horse life and my writing life are always jogging each other at the elbow, trying to crowd the other one out.  Lately, my horse life has been winning.

--

An older friend recently told me that I needed to start feeding Indy.  He's always been a skinny bone Jones,  so I just took it as part of his genetic makeup.  But the endless feeding swarm of mosquitos, flies, and other summer bugs, weren't helping anything.  I got him some of Purina's Strategy feed and it's been working quite well.  I go over to feed him every morning, and he's already putting on weight.  His eyes are much happier too.  I also gave him a dewormer which should help - I found out my stable guy only worms the horses twice a year.  Hmm.

Since our trail ride, in which all my prayers were answered, I have 100% of my confidence back.  First time since my accident a couple years ago.  I am fearless! Well, as much as is sensible... Indy and I lope all the time now, and it's as if my horse knows something has changed.  He's so much calmer, just as I am.  It's true that they sense your feelings.

Also, two of my friends just got horses.  Remember Shelby? She bought a horse from the stable named Apache, who needs a lot of TLC.  But when that's over with, she'll have a good pal.  And you knew Whisper got a horse named Marquessa.  We hope to ride together next weekend.

quessa - look at her elegant head!

The last bit of news I will give you is that the two lovely ladies you will see below, Alpha and Red, have been sent off for breeding.  Know what means, right? There may soon be one or two foals at the stable.  How awesome!

Have any of you ever had / raised / trained a foal?

Hi Ellyn! Thank you very much for the comments - I am sorry I am so slow at returning the favor! With this talk on old-time school I am inspired to do a post on it, else I was thinking it was the same thing every year and I wouldn't have anything new and interesting to tell.

I am so glad you are having such a good time with Indy! I have never topped such speeds as you have or gone as far. But each ride is just as wonderful and I suppose that's what counts! :D Have you ever heard of the two suprise foals we've had here before?

Have a great day!

I have not raised a foal, but I did get to help tame and train a yearling who had never seen humans before in her life. That was fun, I wish I could interact with horses more often again.

I've never raised a foal, but I have raised a calf. pain in the B.U.T.T. Baby bulls are stupid, honestly.

You're making my heart hurt for a horse. :-(

Love Indy all the more, for there are/is a girl out there, crying her poor heart out for a horse pal!

;-)

Hope I didn't sound complain-y.

I know what you mean about other things combatting for writing time. I've been having trouble focusing on my editing lately, but I'm working on fixing that. Good luck with *Seaspear*!

Actually, yes, I've raised 3 :) I've had Sonny since he was a bratty unworked with 9 month old, Toby since he was an untouched (but kinda people friendly) yearling, and Rambo since he was 2 weeks old :)

I also know what it's like juggling writing and horse time :P It's a wee bit difficult... Ha, but they always seem to balance out in the end :P The only problem I have is that since I do have everything I have *rolls eyes* I tend to forget about my Quiet Time. *sighs* One of these days I will figure out how to fit everything into a 24 hour day ;)

Hi Ellyn! I've sent you several invites for my writing blog, are you not getting them? Or are they expiring? I sent the last one yesterday...
Let me know if you're not getting them and I'll see what I can do. Your input on Bristé would be priceless :)
